-Heimtextil creates sustainability strategy for Trend Space
More sustainability for the Trend Space: Heimtextil, which takes place from 7-10 January 2020, together with its international Trend Council, has developed a material manifesto and thus chosen a new sustainable approach for the conception of the Trend Space.
Through intelligent material choice, the Heimtextil team and their Trend Council have created an immersive forum with a minimal footprint.
This means finding alternatives to new materials wherever possible, thus avoiding excess waste when the exhibition closes.
-Bioplastics Consortium Granted €25M EU Funding
The PEFerence consortium, coordinated by Avantium Renewable Polymers, has received reconfirmation of a €25M Horizon 2020 grant from the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking to develop plant-based, recyclable plastics.Petrochemical PET Polyolefin LDPE
The grant was originally awarded in 2017 when the PEFerence consortium was under coordination of Synvina, a joint venture between Avantium and BASF.
-EU Commission clears the acquisition of Solvay’s EEA nylon business by Domo Chemicals
The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the proposed acquisition of Solvay’s nylon business assets (the “Divestment Business”) by Domo Chemicals GmbH (“Domo”). Petrochemical PET Polyolefin LDPE
The Divestment Business is being divested in the context of the Commission’s conditional clearance in January 2019 of the acquisition of Solvay’s EP and P&I business by BASF (M.8674).

Domo is a vertically integrated firm, which offers a portfolio of nylon intermediates and final products focusing on the nylon 6 value chain, fertilizers and petrochemical products.
The nylon 6 value chain and the nylon 6.6 value chain are different in respect of the feedstock, intermediates and final products involved. Therefore, the products of the Divestment Business and Domo are largely complementary

Indonesian textiles and clothing exports is growing at a rate marginally faster than that of the country’s GDP, but the overall downward trend continues. A Market Intelligence (MI) report from Fibre2Fashion.
The export value of Indonesian textiles and clothing products increased to $13.28 billion in CY (calendar year) 2018 from $12.54 billion in CY 2017 with a growth rate of 5.90 per cent, according to textile association Asosiasi Pertekstilan Indonesia (API). -Enzyme discovery could keep tonnes of polyester from landfill
Professor Robert Speight and Dr. Laura Navone found that a commercial enzyme dissolves wool fibres from polyester and wool mix fabrics, without damaging the polyester strands.
“Recycled polyester is a valuable tradable commodity,” Professor Speight, from QUT’s Institute for Future Environments and the Science and Engineering Faculty.

Spa uniform provider, Fashionizer Spa, has developed a new sustainable fabric style – Eco-Smooth.
The fabric is developed with eco-friendly technologies and will be used to create a new uniform style – the Aurora Tunic. Additional styles will be added to the in-stock range and sold online.

Eco-Smooth is composed of 60 per cent organic cotton, 37 per cent Newlife PET and three per cent Lycra.
-Asia PA sinks to 2019-low on tepid demand; outlook stays grim
Asia’s phthalic anhydride (PA) import prices remain in the doldrums as wider discounts failed to uplift buying.
With consumer confidence still undermined by the incessant US-China tensions, prospects of any near-term recovery for PA demand seem dim, market participants said.
In southeast Asia, import PA prices started declining in September, and by end-November, average prices have lost more than 10% to hit $805/tonne CFR (cost and freight) SE (southeast) Asia.
