-Number of active U.S. drilling rigs continues to fall this week

The number of active drilling rigs in the United States fell by 15 to 781 this week, down by 294 rigs year-on-year, according to weekly data released by a Houston-based oilfield services company on Friday.

According to Baker Hughes, these active drilling rigs included 659 oil rigs operating in the U.S. oil fields, down by 11 from the previous week; 119 gas drilling rigs, down by four from the previous week; and three miscellaneous rigs, unchanged from last week.

The 781 rigs include 759 land drilling rigs, down by 14 from the previous week; 21 offshore drilling rigs, down by one; and one inland waters drilling rig which remained unchanged from last week.

The company has seen a significant increase in client demand for products using recycled polyethylene to create more sustainable packaging solutions for customers.

To handle this increase in demand, the business has decided to sell its partner company Moorgreen Flexible Packaging in Derbyshire to Vickers-Lee Holdings, owners of Cromwell Polythene, and will invest the funds from the sale into the expansion of its site in Manchester to accommodate the new machinery.

-Asia’s naphtha crack rises on higher demand

Asia’s naphtha refining margin rose 5.8% to $79.33 a tonne on Thursday, its highest since Jan. 3, boosted by a rise in demand this week.

Messe Frankfurt, one of the world’s largest trade fair organizers has licensed its Heimtextil brand to Inexmoda, a private non-profit institute based in Colombia (South America) and owner of the most important textile and fashion trade shows in Latin America – Colombiatex of the Americas and Colombiamoda, Colombia ́s Fashion Week. The Circularise PLASTICS initiative is set to pilot its blockchain technology for transparent circularity in plastics in a production environment early this year in what the group is calling its “first milestone.” The collaborative project was founded by polyamide supplier DOMO, materials manufacturer Covestro and Circularise, a supply chain transparency start-up. Dutch renewable chemicals company Avantium has announced that it will build its furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) flagship plant at Chemie Park Delfzijl, the Netherlands.

The five-kiloton facility will produce plant-based FDCA – a key building block for many chemicals and plastics such as PEF (polyethylene furanoate).
