-SIBUR plans to recycle secondary PET in Bashkiria

SIBUR does not exclude the appearance of its own secondary PET, which is supposed to be processed at the Polyef (Bashkiria) plant in the coming years, Rupec reports citing SIBUR Executive Director Sergei Komyshan during a company press conference on Tuesday 18 February.

“We have developed a project for the production of secondary PET, we are moving and quite successfully. Within 1.5 years we’ll enter the market with an offer of not only primary, but also secondary PET,” said board member Sergei Komyshan.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is “a little bit surprised” that Boris Johnson cited the “Australia model” as a potential blueprint of a post-Brexit trade relationship between the U.K. and the EU.

The non-core asset bank Trust plans to sell the Kaliningrad-based Ecopet enterprise by the end of 2020, Rugrad reports citing the company’s press service.

The process of preparing an asset for sale has not yet been finalized. Earlier, the general director of the plant, Alexander Anikeev, expressed the hope that the deal would be closed in a short time, and reported at least three potential investors.

The press service of the Trust did not specify the price at which the Kaliningrad enterprise will be sold; it is considered the largest producer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) – materials for plastic packaging in Russia and Europe. The latest report from sustainability consultancy Eunomia, in collaboration with the European Federation of Bottled Water (EFBW), Petcore Europe, and Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE), projects a strong trend toward the use of recycled PET (rPET) thanks to increased demand.

-Exxon puts PX off-takers on allocation amid glitch

ExxonMobil will place its paraxylene (PX) off-takers on supply allocation from March because of mechanical issues it is experiencing at its Singapore-based aromatics unit.

The company did not identify the unit but said it would shut the plant for maintenance and that supply allocation will remain in place until plant operations resume and reaches on-specification production.

The new PAN precursor fibre will have a tensile strength of 700 ksi and will be marketed as M700.
