MOSCOW  – SIBUR does not exclude the appearance of its own secondary PET, which is supposed to be processed at the Polyef (Bashkiria) plant in the coming years, Rupec reports citing SIBUR Executive Director Sergei Komyshan during a company press conference on Tuesday 18 February.

“We have developed a project for the production of secondary PET, we are moving and quite successfully. Within 1.5 years we’ll enter the market with an offer of not only primary, but also secondary PET,” said board member Sergei Komyshan.

Previously, Dmitry Konov, the company’s management, spoke about plans to involve secondary PET in the production cycle on the Annunciation site.

“Most likely, the Blagoveshchensk model is a small number of points where plastic will be massively processed, and accordingly, clean secondary plastic will be brought to one point,” D. Konov said.SIBUR recycle secondary PET

At a press conference on Tuesday with reporters from SIBUR’s board of directors, he noted that from the point of view of reducing the carbon footprint, a company can first produce polymer, and in the second, involve it in further processing.

  1. Komyshan noted that SIBUR is currently working on several projects in the field of plastic recycling, but it is premature to announce them.

In January, the SIBUR Board of Directors approved a strategy for the sustainable development of the company. SIBUR recycle secondary PET

One of the goals is to increase by 50% investments in R&D projects aimed at processing polymer waste and involving renewable sources of raw materials, building an effective system of interaction on sustainable development throughout the supply chain, as well as achieving a share of PET production with secondary granule content from the total PET production in the amount of not less than 40%.

According to the ICIS-MRC Price Survey , SIBUR last week offered PET with deviations in terms of indicators at a discount from current spot prices. SIBUR recycle secondary PET

As previously reported, the production of TPA at the plant in Blagoveshchensk in late January was again stopped. Partial production of PET at the plant is carried out.

Earlier it was reported that on October 9, 2019, industrial wastewater partially hit the territory adjacent to the enterprise due to the collapse of a fragment of the wall of the reserve tank.

Polyef JSC (Blagoveshchensk, Republic of Bashkortostan) is the only producer of terephthalic acid and the largest supplier of polyethylene terephthalate in Russia. The capacity for the production of TPA after modernization is 350 thousand tons per year, PET – 219 thousand tons per year.SIBUR recycle secondary PET
