PET Technologies Grows Globally from War-Torn Ukraine, Expanding Innovative PET Machinery Reach While Supporting Sustainable and Recycled Packaging Initiatives Worldwide 17-10-2025
“PET Technologies Expands Globally from Ukraine, Delivering Innovative, Sustainable, and Recycled PET Machinery Solutions”
PET Technologies Ltd., a leading stretch blow molding equipment manufacturer based in Chernihiv, Ukraine, continues to expand internationally despite ongoing regional conflicts. The company has successfully reached markets across the Americas and Africa, including El Salvador, Tanzania, and Djibouti, while maintaining strong local ties.
Global Expansion Amid Challenges
Founded in 1999, PET Technologies has been steadily growing its footprint worldwide. Collaboration with major brand owners, such as the Danone Group, and partnerships with companies like Graham Packaging in York, Pennsylvania, have reinforced its position as a reliable PET machinery supplier. The company also supports lightweighting initiatives and academic research with institutions including Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.
However, the onset of Russia’s invasion in early 2022 significantly disrupted operations. Located less than 90 miles from Kyiv, Chernihiv became a focal point for conflict. Air raids flew directly over the company’s 97,000-square-foot plant, threatening production and employee safety.
CEO Maxim Poliansky recalled, “In 2022, we struggled. The main challenge was to gain trust — for Ukraine and for ourselves — that we could still operate and supply equipment. But we did it rather fast coming back to the market.” Despite persistent threats, Poliansky emphasized that adapting to the situation has become part of daily operations.
Innovation and Workforce Development
To ensure continuous production, PET Technologies installed solar panels to provide backup energy during outages. The company has also developed extensive training programs, scholarships, and research opportunities for university students. Bringing young talent into the workforce has become more urgent due to military conscription, which affects employees under age 25.
Currently, PET Technologies employs around 250 people, with room for expansion. Recent investments include additional production equipment for its all-electric blow molding presses. Operator shortages remain a challenge, emphasizing the company’s focus on workforce development and rapid onboarding.
Speed, Customization, and Next-Generation Machines
Flexibility and speed to market remain central to PET Technologies’ strategy. The company is now producing its fourth generation of stretch blow molding machines while increasing its mold-building operations. Molds are designed for both PET Technologies machines and competitor models, enhancing versatility for customers.
Head of Marketing Tetiana Pronikova explained, “Our main strategy is to make our products as flexible and customizable as possible. Each machine coming to market is more tailored to individual project needs.” This approach allows the company to meet diverse client requirements efficiently.
Lightweighting and Sustainable Packaging
One of PET Technologies’ core initiatives is lightweighting, which reduces the material used in bottles without compromising quality. For example, larger PET containers have been redesigned from 120 grams to 105 grams, demonstrating significant material efficiency.
The company is also actively engaged in producing bottles made entirely from recycled PET (rPET). This includes collaboration with the Danone Group for 100% rPET water bottles and niche projects such as Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water, which sources recycled PET from ocean-bound plastic. PET Technologies continues to support sustainable packaging practices while meeting regulatory and environmental standards.
Emerging Opportunities and Market Adaptation
Shifts in consumer demand and regulatory landscapes are opening new avenues for PET Technologies. With global restrictions on bisphenol A (BPA), many companies are transitioning from polycarbonate to PET for water cooler bottles. PET Technologies is positioned to provide reliable, BPA-free alternatives, aligning with evolving safety and sustainability trends.
Despite exploring potential relocation to western Ukraine or elsewhere in Europe, PET Technologies has remained in Chernihiv. Poliansky emphasized a commitment to the local community: “We need to support the local community where we are. Not everyone wants to move somewhere else. We feel a social responsibility to be here.”
Technological Advancements
The company continues to innovate across all aspects of PET machinery. From extrusion and injection molds for external clients to enhanced blow molding presses, PET Technologies is dedicated to producing highly customizable and efficient equipment. This dedication ensures the company stays competitive and responsive to global market needs.
Integration of modern production technologies, alongside renewable energy solutions and flexible workforce strategies, positions PET Technologies as a resilient, forward-thinking organization capable of navigating both geopolitical and market challenges.
Strategic Partnerships and Academic Collaboration
PET Technologies leverages strategic partnerships to expand knowledge and capability. By working closely with universities and processors, the company fosters innovation in lightweighting, recycling, and material efficiency. These collaborations not only benefit PET Technologies but also contribute to broader industry advancements.
The company’s commitment to collaboration enhances credibility, attracts skilled talent, and ensures its machinery meets evolving production standards, ultimately supporting long-term growth.
Future Outlook
Despite operating in a conflict zone, PET Technologies demonstrates that resilience, innovation, and global partnerships can drive growth. The company’s focus on flexibility, sustainability, and workforce development ensures it continues to meet market demand while supporting social and environmental goals.
With its strategic approach to technology, customer-centric customization, and commitment to the local community, PET Technologies is poised to remain a leader in PET machinery manufacturing worldwide.
