LANXESS offers new flame-retardant thermoplastic composite materials with a polyamide 6 matrix

Tepex continuous-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites from LANXESS are characterized by their high inherent flame-retardant properties.

One of the reasons for this is their high fiber content.

They therefore already pass many of the flammability tests required for typical applications without flame protection.

However, for some applications – such as housings for control cabinets or components of high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles – a V-0 classification in the UL 94 flammability test from the US testing institute Underwriters Laboratories Inc. is often mandatory.

For such cases, LANXESS has developed three new halogen-free, flame-retardant Tepex variants with a polyamide 6 matrix.

-Equipolymers improves Viridis PET grade, now made with 30% recycled feedstock

Equate’s Equipolymers (EQP) subsidiary has launched Viridis 30, a food-grade polyethylene terephthalate (PET) manufactured with 30% chemically recycled PET as feedstock, accoridng to GV. Petrochemical PAResin GreenHydrogen

The Viridis grade was started in 2009, with the support of the Coca-Cola Co., when EQP launched Viridis 10, made with 10 % chemically recycled PET. Last January, it produced its first successful batch of Viridis 25, which uses up to 25% chemically recycled PET. Viridis 30 is expected to be commercially available to the European market from the first quarter of 2021.

“Viridis 30 is a significant achievement for EQP and for the petrochemical industry,” said Muayad Al Faresi, global business director for PET at EQP. “As global demand increases, the transformation of our industry is necessary to create new products that are more sustainable in the long term. The development of Viridis 30 is aligned with the EU’s (European Union) target to achieve 25 % rPET (recycled PET) in packaging by 2025, and 30 % by 2030. It highlights our commitment towards innovation – this is a breakthrough that will have far reaching environmental, social and business benefits.”

-UK plastic recycling ‘could more than triple by 2030’

The British Plastics Federation projects exports of plastic waste could more than halve and the UK could eliminate reliance on low quality exports within the next decade

Plastics recycled within facilities across the UK could increase 3.5 times by 2030 with the right drivers in place. Petrochemical PAResin GreenHydrogen

That’s according to a new report from the British Plastics Federation (BPF), which highlights what the UK needs to achieve if it is to drastically reduce reliance on exporting plastic waste for recycling and cut the amount of plastic going to landfill to 1% over the next decade.

It projects exports of plastic waste could more than halve and the UK could eliminate reliance on low quality exports within the next decade.

The report calls for same plastic waste collection schemes across all local authorities, kerbside collections for plastic film, increases in the use of recycled material in new products and better communication to the public about what can be recycled, in addition to investment in UK recycling systems.

KBR Partners with Mura Technology for Plastic Recycling

Under an agreement signed between KBR and Mura Technology, KBR will be the exclusive licensing partner for Mura Technology’s Cat-HTRTM, an innovative advanced plastics recycling process. KBR will also provide studies, basic engineering, technical services, proprietary equipment and modules for the technology to global customers.

KBR has recently announced that it has signed an alliance agreement with Mura Technology to offer Cat-HTRTM, an innovative advanced plastics recycling process.

Cat-HTR is a sustainability-focused, innovative technology that recycles end-of-life plastic such as thin plastic packaging, which would otherwise be combusted, sent to landfills or leaked into the environment. Petrochemical PAResin GreenHydrogen

Cat-HTR converts these mixed plastics into an intermediate hydrocarbon feedstock that can be further refined to produce virgin polymers and chemicals. The technology is based on a patented hydrothermal upgrading process which utilizes supercritical water to produce stable hydrocarbon products from a wide range of mixed plastic waste.

-unspun Genesis Jeans Harness Eon Technology In New Model For Circular Denim

unspun, the 3D body scan jeans company named one of TIME magazine’s “Best Inventions of 2019” and Popular Science magazine’s “Best of What’s New 2020,” has launched Genesis, its most sustainable pair of jeans yet.

Producing a single pair of jeans today requires an immense amount of water and energy, and produces a significant amount of pollution.Petrochemical PAResin GreenHydrogen

Developed as part of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign program, the jeans solve for these challenges by combining the unspun company’s inventory-free systems of production with pioneering globally available best-in-class materials like Resortecs® smart stitch threads (which can be heated and dissolved to make recycling more feasible) and a scannable QR Code to provide customers circular care instructions, and share key circularity data with resellers and recyclers.

-Techtextil, Texprocess and Heimtextil postponed due to pandemic

The next Techtextil and Texprocess will take place in Frankfurt in the second quarter of 2022. The new dates will be announced shortly.
