Avro India Sets Up 500 MTPM Plastic Recycling Facility in Ghaziabad
Avro India Limited has taken a significant step toward strengthening India’s circular economy by establishing a large-scale plastic recycling facility in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The new greenfield unit has been developed by Avro Recycling Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Avro India, which is widely recognised for its leadership in plastic-moulded furniture manufacturing.
This strategic investment positions Avro India as a key enabler of sustainable manufacturing and responsible plastic waste management at a time when regulatory pressure and environmental awareness are reshaping the plastics industry. plastic recycling facility
India’s Largest Flexible Plastic Recycling Plant
The Ghaziabad recycling facility currently operates with a processing capacity of 500 metric tonnes per month. This makes it the largest flexible plastic recycling plant in India at present. The company has already laid out a roadmap to double capacity to 1,000 MTPM by the fourth quarter of FY 2025–26, ensuring readiness for growing industry demand.
With a capital expenditure of Rs. 25 crore already invested, Avro India plans to deploy an additional Rs. 30 crore by FY 2027. These investments reflect a long-term commitment to scaling organised recycling infrastructure across India and reducing dependence on virgin plastic. plastic recycling facility
Tackling Complex and Previously Non-Recyclable Plastic Waste
One of the most critical aspects of this plastic recycling facility is its ability to process complex plastic waste that has traditionally been considered difficult or uneconomical to recycle. Materials such as cement bags, salt and sugar packaging, putty bags, and calcite sacks have historically ended up in landfills or been handled by the informal sector with limited recovery value.
After more than three years of intensive research, pilot testing, and technological refinement, Avro India has developed a proprietary recycling system capable of upcycling these multi-layered and contaminated plastics at industrial scale. This innovation enables the responsible processing of nearly one million metric tonnes per annum of such waste generated across India, significantly reducing environmental leakage. plastic recycling facility
Supporting India’s Extended Producer Responsibility Goals
The launch of the Ghaziabad plastic recycling facility comes at a crucial time for Indian brand owners and manufacturers. Under Extended Producer Responsibility regulations, companies are required to incorporate a minimum of 30 percent recycled plastic content in rigid plastic products. However, the market has been facing a persistent shortage of high-quality recycled raw materials that meet performance and compliance standards.
By delivering consistent volumes of high-grade recycled granules, Avro India is directly addressing this supply gap. The facility strengthens India’s organised recycling ecosystem and supports manufacturers in meeting EPR targets without compromising product quality or operational efficiency.
High-Quality Recycled Granules for Diverse Industries
The recycled plastic granules produced at the Ghaziabad facility are fully utilised in the manufacture of high-value end products. These include plastic furniture, air coolers, washing machines, automotive components, and a wide range of industrial and consumer goods.
Importantly, the recycled material is available at up to 40 percent lower cost compared to virgin plastic. Despite the cost advantage, the granules meet stringent technical, durability, and performance benchmarks. This combination allows manufacturers to remain competitive while reducing their environmental footprint and improving sustainability credentials. Recycling & Waste Management
Leveraging a Strong Pan-India Distribution Network
Avro India’s recycling initiative is further strengthened by its extensive distribution network. The company works with more than 300 distributors and supplies products through over 30,000 retailers across 24 Indian states. This scale enables efficient integration of recycled materials into existing manufacturing and supply chains, accelerating adoption across sectors.
The Ghaziabad plastic recycling facility also serves as a foundation for future greenfield projects. Avro India has outlined plans to expand its recycling footprint nationwide, creating regional hubs that can process local plastic waste and supply nearby manufacturing clusters.
Building a Scalable and Responsible Recycling Ecosystem
Avro India’s leadership views plastic recycling as a structural solution rather than a fragmented activity. By investing in technology, capacity, and organised operations, the company aims to transform plastic waste into a valuable industrial resource. The Ghaziabad facility demonstrates how scale and innovation can convert environmental challenges into economic opportunities.
This approach not only reduces landfill burden and pollution but also creates a reliable domestic supply of recycled plastic, supporting India’s sustainability goals and manufacturing resilience.
A Milestone for India’s Circular Economy
The establishment of the 500 MTPM plastic recycling facility in Ghaziabad marks an important milestone for Avro India and the broader Indian plastics industry. It signals a shift toward organised, technology-driven recycling capable of handling complex waste streams at scale.
As regulatory requirements tighten and sustainability becomes central to business strategy, facilities like this will play a vital role in shaping a circular economy where plastic waste is reused responsibly, costs are optimised, and environmental impact is significantly reduced.
