Multiboard CirculaRR is a food-contact-compliant packaging solution designed for recyclability and supported by leading certifications, helping brands prepare for upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements.

  • A plastic-coated paper packaging solution that promotes circularity in food packaging
  • Made exclusively from recycled cartonboard and ISCC PLUS-certified recycled plastic derived from advanced recycling
  • Suitable for demanding uses such as frozen foods and dry pet food
  • Compatible with existing mixed paper recycling streams  recycled fibre food packaging

Dow, a global leader in materials science, and RDM Group, a major producer of recycled cartonboard, have announced the launch of Multiboard CirculaRR—an innovative solution aimed at advancing circularity in food barrier packaging. The product is suitable for a wide range of food-contact applications, including frozen items like fish and cakes, fruit trays, and dry pet food.

This new solution combines RDM Group’s expertise in fibre-based packaging with Dow’s leadership in circular polymers and advanced recycling. Multiboard CirculaRR is made entirely from recycled materials: recycled paperboard coated with recycled polyethylene (PE). Despite its sustainable composition, it maintains the high-performance standards required for demanding packaging applications.

Built on Proven Materials with End-of-Life in Mind

Multiboard CirculaRR builds on RDM Group’s existing Multiboard Barrier product, produced at its Fiskeby facility in Sweden. This material consists of recycled cartonboard coated with approximately 5% polyethylene by weight. The low plastic content allows the packaging to be processed within standard mixed paper recycling systems, supporting efficient end-of-life management. recycled fibre food packaging

Krzysztof Krajewski, Chief Sustainability and Innovation Officer at RDM Group, described the product as a major step forward:
“Multiboard CirculaRR represents a breakthrough in circular food packaging. Its plastic component is now certified as recycled and designed with recyclability in mind.”

He added that the collaboration with Dow aims to move beyond the traditional divide between paper and plastic, encouraging a more unified approach to reducing packaging waste and advancing circularity. recycled fibre food packaging

Certified Recycled Content and Food Safety Compliance

The plastic component of Multiboard CirculaRR is certified under the ISCC PLUS system, ensuring the use of recycled plastic sourced through advanced recycling and verified via a mass balance approach. Additionally, the solution has been certified by ISEGA, confirming its suitability for food-contact applications. recycled fibre food packaging

Dow’s expertise in circular materials plays a crucial role in enabling this innovation. Advanced recycling complements mechanical recycling by converting hard-to-recycle plastic waste into high-quality raw materials, enabling the production of plastics with properties comparable to virgin materials.

Marian Gmenta, Senior Marketing Manager for Circular and Renewable Solutions at Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics EMEA, commented:
“By combining our expertise with RDM Group’s fibre-based packaging capabilities, we’ve created a fully recycled, food-safe solution with strong potential across multiple applications. It helps brands prepare for future EU packaging regulations, including PPWR.”

Designed for Recyclability

Beyond using recycled inputs, Multiboard CirculaRR has been engineered for recyclability. It has been independently assessed using testing protocols developed by 4evergreen, an industry alliance focused on improving fibre-based packaging circularity. These assessments confirm that the material can be effectively recycled within existing paper recycling systems. recycled fibre food packaging

This is particularly important as regulatory requirements evolve. The EU’s PPWR mandates that all packaging on the EU market must be recyclable by 2030 and introduces minimum recycled content targets for plastics. Multiboard CirculaRR supports these goals while maintaining high standards for food safety and performance. recycled fibre food packaging

Launch at interpack 2026

The new packaging solution will debut at interpack 2026, the world’s leading packaging trade fair, taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 7–13. Prototypes will be displayed at Dow’s booth (Hall 9, C24), offering visitors a firsthand look at how fibre and plastic can be combined to create circular, high-performance packaging.  recycled fibre food packagi
