Nova Chemicals Expands Recycled Polyethylene Portfolio With Two New Grades

Nova Chemicals is accelerating the transition toward a circular plastics economy with the launch of two new recycled polyethylene grades under its Syndigo platform. The new resins, rPE-IN3 and rPE-IN4, are manufactured from 100% post-consumer recycled films and are designed for general-purpose, non-food applications across North America.  

This expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to scaling recycled polyethylene solutions while meeting increasing brand-owner demand for high-quality post-consumer recycled content in flexible packaging.


Designed for Non-Food Flexible Packaging Applications

The newly commercialized recycled polyethylene grades are linear low-density polyethylene materials suitable for a broad spectrum of flexible packaging uses.

Syndigo1 Facility Demonstrates Commercial Viability

The new recycled polyethylene grades are produced at Syndigo1, Nova Chemicals’ mechanical recycling facility located in Connersville, Indiana.

Commissioned in 2025, the facility marks the company’s first investment in dedicated mechanical recycling infrastructure. It represents a strategic pivot from traditional resin production toward integrated circular polymer systems.

Syndigo1 is expected to reach full operational capacity in 2026, with projected output exceeding 100 million pounds annually. At this scale, the plant demonstrates that closed-loop polyethylene film recycling is commercially feasible in North America.
