Ulsan PP began construction of a new PP plant in Ulsan
MOSCOW – Ulsan PP Co. Ltd., a joint venture of PolyMirae Company Ltd, a partnership (50:50) of LyondellBasell (LBI) and Daelim, and SK Advanced, began construction of a new polypropylene (PP) plant in Ulsan (Ulsan, South Korea) on October 22 ), according to a LBI press release.
The fifth-generation LyondellBasell technology, Spheripol, will be used at the new plant with a capacity of 400 thousand tons of PP per year. Once completed, it will become one of the largest PP factories of its kind in Asia.
The commissioning of the new enterprise is scheduled for May 2021.
PolyMirae will sell manufactured PP at the new Ulsan PP plant to consumers in South Korea, and LyondellBasell and Daelim will export material from the new facility to other Asian markets.
It was previously noted that LyondellBasell Industries (LBI), the world’s largest producer of polyolefins, in September commissioned the fifth production line of PP compounds at its petrochemical complex in Knapsack (Knapsack, Germany). The capacity of the new line is 25 thousand tons of PP compounds per year.
According to Market Report’s DataScope, PP imports to Russia decreased by 9% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period a year earlier and amounted to 120.1 thousand tons. The largest decline in imports came from propylene homopolymer (PP-homo).
