US October propylene contracts settled lower by 1.5 cents/lb ($33/tonne) for the majority of the market on Thursday, on sluggish demand and rising inventories.
The settlement puts October polymer-grade propylene (PGP) contracts at 37.5 cents/lb DEL (delivered) and chemical-grade propylene (CGP) contracts at 36.0 cents/lb DEL.

Zhejiang Petrochemical, a private Chinese company, plans to commission a new polypropylene (PP) plant in Zhejiang Province (Zhejiang, China) in November this year, a source close to the company told NCT .
The capacity of the new enterprise will be 900 thousand tons of PP per year.
It was noted earlier that at the end of last year, the company began test production at refineries with a capacity of 400 barrels per day at the new Zhoushan petrochemical complex in eastern China and intends to increase its capacity utilization to 100% in the fourth quarter.

A packaging equipment manufacturer has announced a 100% RPET bottle with an extremely thin layer of silica to serve as a gas barrier.
Called Beyond Juice, the container uses technology from German company KHS Corpoplast. The bottle is made from FreshSafe PET, which uses an ultra-thin layer of silica to provide an oxygen and carbon dioxide barrier, protecting the juice or other sensitive beverage. Petrochemical Bioplastics ACN

ormosa Taffeta Co (FTC), a textile affiliate of Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Group (FPG), plans to invest up to $40.55 million in Switzerland’s Schoeller Textil AG next year to deepen its cooperation with the latter and raise its market share of high-end products. FTC’s board of directors has approved acquiring a 50 per cent stake in Schoeller Textil in March next.

The researchers have discovered a new method for upcycling low-value plastics into high-quality liquid products to improve current recycling methods.

Radilon® NeXTreme is a polyamide material capable of withstanding long-term exposure to high temperatures. “Radilon® NeXTreme was initially developed for automotive applications, for which it is well suited as it features exceptional heat ageing resistance in air at 230°C,” said Erico Spini, global marketing manager of RadiciGroup High Performance Polymers. “After that, we developed a grade on the same polymer base for extrusion of technical filaments for industrial applications under very severe use conditions.”
Two grades of Radilon® NeXTreme are offered for the automotive sector: 35% glass-fibre reinforced (RV350HHR 3800 BK) and 50% glass-fibre filled (RV500HHR 3800 BK). Typical applications for these materials are air suction system components requiring considerable heat resistance.
“Our third grade, Radilon® NeXTreme HSW 100 NT, for the extrusion of technical monofilament,” Mr. Spini added, “has already been successfully tested both in the extrusion process and in specific applications where high heat resistance is required (professional brushes for industrial use, brushes for metal cleaning as a replacement for natural tampico fibre and professional brushes for hairdressers).”

Purified PP: PureCycle Technologies, a company that licenses a PP recycling and purification technology from Procter & Gamble, has signed a deal with packaging manufacturer AptarGroup. PureCycle’s technology removes color, odor and other contaminants from recycled PP.
