Plastiverd has loaded the PET plant in Spain at full capacity after the restart
MOSCOW – The Spanish company Plastiverd has brought the capacity utilization at the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant in El Prat de Llobregat (El Prat de Llobregat, province of Barcelona, Spain) to 100% after the restart of production, ICIS .
Maintenance on one of the lines of this enterprise with a capacity of 180 thousand tons of PET per year was started at the end of February this year and was conducted until early March.
Earlier it was noted that on November 22, 2016, a fire broke out at the PET plant in El Prat de Llobregat due to a technical malfunction. However, the enterprise continued to work in its normal mode, since only auxiliary equipment was out of order. As a result of the incident, none of the employees were injured, the company only had to reduce the capacity utilization as a precaution.
According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC , by the end of 2017, PET imports to Russia decreased by 13% to 130 thousand tons against 149 thousand tons a year earlier.
PlastiVerd was purchased by the conglomerate Cristian Lay Group from La Seda de Barcelona in April 2014. In addition to this plant, the package for the purchase of about EUR15 million included a plant for the production of ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol with a capacity of about 200 thousand tons per year. La Seda de Barcelona operates PET plants in Spain, Turkey and Italy, as well as a recycling plant in Italy. LSB is also the main shareholder of the Portuguese company Artlant PTA.
