rPET Plant – Stavian Recycling’s Strategic Collaboration Accelerates Cutting-Edge rPET Plant in Vietnam with Global Technology Partners to Drive Circular Economy Growth 31-10-2025
rPET Plant – A bold leap for plastic recycling in Vietnam
Vietnam-based Stavian Recycling, part of the broader Stavian Group industrial conglomerate, is partnering with machinery specialists Starlinger GmbH (Austria) and AMUT S.p.A. (Italy) to build a next-generation rPET plant in the country’s central region. The initiative signals a major move in Vietnam’s fast-evolving recycling industry.
Location and capacity
The plant will be located within the newly designated Stavian Recycling Complex in the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa Province. Phase 1 is planned to begin operations in the first quarter of 2027 with an annual processing capacity of 17,000 tons of post-consumer PET. The complex benefits from logistical advantages: approximately 6 km from the CT01 Expressway and around 10 km from Nghi Son Deep-Sea Port. sustainableplastics.com
Technology partners and process overview
Under the MoUs, Starlinger will supply its recoSTAR PET ART line — a bottle-to-bottle recycling solution designed to produce food-grade rPET. VnExpress International+1 Meanwhile AMUT will deliver the pre-processing washing and sorting line, designed to ensure that input materials meet rigorous export and food-grade quality standards. By combining advanced sorting, cleaning and recycling technologies, the plant is set to produce high-quality recycled PET resin suitable for major multinational users globally.
Strategic significance for circular economy and exports
The project reflects Stavian Recycling’s strategy to position itself as a key player in the circular economy, producing food-grade rPET resin for multinational brands in the US, Europe and Japan. VnEconomy+1 Establishing this kind of facility in Vietnam supports the country’s green growth goals and adds value to the domestic recycling industry — generating jobs, boosting exports and enhancing competitiveness. rPET Plant
Timeline and next steps
The Investment Registration Certificate for the Stavian Recycling Complex was officially issued on 24 July 2025. sustainableplastics.com+1 Groundbreaking for the facility is expected in Q4 2025, aligning construction and equipment installation to meet the early-2027 operational target.
Context: recycling landscape in Vietnam
Vietnam’s plastic recycling rate was estimated at around 33 % as of 2019, with PET materials among the most prominent in the sector. The country remains one of the world’s top destinations for imported plastic waste, while European recyclers face competitive pressure due to cost and export dynamics. Why this matters for sustainable industry watchers rPET Plant
For companies and stakeholders in packaging, recycling or sustainability sectors, the project demonstrates how emerging markets can adopt best-in-class technology and integrate into global supply chains of recycled materials. The collaboration between Stavian, Starlinger and AMUT illustrates a model for building modern, fully integrated recycling ecosystems in Asia. rPET Plant
