MOSCOW – The Moscow company Soyuztekstil-ST intends to expand the production of polyester synthetic yarns in the city of Kursk, investing 2 billion rubles in the production, Kommersant reports.

According to Mikhail Aksenov, chairman of the committee on industry, trade and entrepreneurship of the Kursk region, Moscow Soyuztekstil-ST is already installing equipment in workshops within the city. “Investors own land and industrial buildings. They reconstructed them for almost the whole of 2019 and are now preparing to launch the torsion section, the full commissioning of production is planned for 2023,” M. Aksenov said.

Soyuztekstil invests about 2 billion rubles in a new project. own and bank funds (the lender is not disclosed). The total production capacity is estimated at 15 thousand tons of synthetic polyester yarns per year. They can be used as a cord for tires. “At the initial stage, the company focuses on the Russian market, export is possible in the future. We are ready to provide state support to the investor, but so far the company has not requested it from us. But with the participation of the regional administration, the project has already been submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade,” he said.

One of the main buyers of cord at the enterprise may become a large Russian tire manufacturer Cordiant, which is close to the project beneficiaries.

The initiators of the project of the polyester yarn factory are also associated with the Kurskrezinotekhnika company, a large representative of the Kursk chemical industry.

Kursk already has a large producer of synthetic fiber. This is the structure of the Kuybyshevazot holding company Kurskkhimvolokno, which produces technical threads and fabric for cords, among others: the company invested 1.5 billion rubles in 2010 to create the production of these products. Kurskkhimvolokno produces more than 70% of polyamide technical threads in the domestic market. Soyuztekstil plans to produce polyester yarns slightly different from polyamide in terms of stiffness, hygroscopicity and light fastness.

The owner of 100% LLC Soyuztekstil-ST Yuri Ankudinov is the general director of the synthetic fiber and tire cord plant of Tekskor JSC in the city of Volzhsky, Volgograd Region. The majority shareholder of Tekskora is St. Petersburg’s Cordiant, one of the main legal entities for tire manufacturers. From 2012 to the end of 2018, Texcor was an asset of Gazprom and was called Gazprom Khimvolokno. Since 2000, he was part of the SIBUR holding under the name Sibur-Volzhsky.
