MOSCOW – Spot prices for benzene in Europe decreased by 10% compared to last week, reaching the lowest level in 23 months, according to ICIS , citing market participants.

The range of spot prices for benzene for November deliveries in Europe amounted to USD710-730 per ton, where USD720 per ton is for supplies in the first half of November.

Deliveries were made under the terms of CIF, Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam (ARA).
Benzene is a raw material for the production of styrene, which, in turn, is the main raw material component for the production of polystyrene (PS).
According to the ICIS-MRC Price Review, at the end of autumn the cost of polystyrene on the Russian market dropped sharply.
The prices of Russian material in November decreased by 4,000–5,000 rubles / ton on the background of the continuing trend of a fall in the cost of styrene monomer in foreign markets.
