MOSCOW  – Spot domestic prices of polyethylene (PE) in China this week fell from the level of October of this year and may continue the downward trend against the background of oversupply of material on the market and sluggish demand, ICIS reported.

Thus, on November 20, prices for high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE) in East China dropped to their lowest level in more than the last two years – to the level of 9,250 yuan (CNY) or USD1,333 per ton, EXWH (ex-warehouse). Domestic Polyethylene prices China

These levels were last reported on May 31, 2016, according to ICIS.

Prices for blown low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE) in East China were at the level of CNY9 900 per tonne, EXWH, reaching a minimum since July 31, 2017.

At the same time, spot quotes for linear polyethylene (LDL) dropped by 7.5% from October 10, and PND decreased by 13.2% from October 16.

According to the ICIS-MRC price review , prices for a number of types of polyethylene continued to decline in Russia this week.

Purchasing activity on the market is low, there is no shortage of PE offer on the market.  In some segments, on the contrary, due to the seasonal factor there is an excess of supply.a

Most consumers expect a further decline in PE prices in December and, against this background, limit their purchases to current needs only.

Producers of HDPE do not see reasons for price correction.
