Evonik opens new polyamide 12 powder plant in Germany

Specialty chemicals maker Evonik Industries AG has opened a new production line for specialty polyamide 12 powders at its global production site in Marl, Germany.

In a statement, Germany-based Evonik said the new facility primarily produces high-performance powders for the rapidly expanding 3-D printing market.
“Polyamide 12 is part of our strategic ‘smart materials’ growth engine that involves optimizing the performance and efficiency of products with improved materials,” Harald Schwager, deputy chairman of Evonik’s executive board, said in the statement. “We significantly expanded our polyamide 12 powder plant in Marl in order to support the development of future-oriented technologies such as 3-D printing with innovative solutions.”
The investment volume for the new plant is in the mid double-digit million Euro range, he added. “With the new plant, [we are] increasing our existing annual capacities for PA 12 powders by 50 per cent,” Schwager said.
Applications for Evonik’s polyamide 12 material include automotive industry, oil and gas production, medicine, and sports-related products.
