MOSCOW – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has worsened its October forecast of economic growth in Russia in 2019 by 0.2 percentage points.  – to 1.6%, the estimate of global GDP growth has also been reduced – to 3.5% from 3.7%, according to the January World Economic Outlook (WEO), Interfax reports.

In 2020, the IMF expects global growth by 3.6%, the Russian one – by 1.7%.  The forecast for emerging market and developing countries for the current year is also lowered by 0.2 percentage points.  – To 4.5%, in 2020, growth will accelerate to 4.9%, the IMF believes. IMF downgrades Russian economy

The assessment of the growth of the Indian economy in 2019 increased by 0.1 percentage points  – up to 7.5%, in 2020 growth is expected to accelerate to 7.7%.  The growth forecast of the Chinese economy for the current year remains the same – 6.2%, next year the same growth is expected.  Brazil’s GDP, according to the IMF, will grow by 2.5% in 2019 (a 2.4% increase was previously expected).

In the economies of the CIS countries in 2019, the IMF predicts a growth of 2.2% (previously estimated at 2.4%).  Excluding Russia, the GDP of the CIS countries in the current year will grow at a rate of 3.7% (previously expected to grow by 3.6%), in 2020 also 3.7%. IMF downgrades Russian economy

Estimated GDP growth in developed countries in 2019 was reduced by 0.1 percentage points.  – up to 2%, in 2020, according to the fund, growth will slow to 1.7%.

The growth forecast for the US economy remained unchanged – 2.5% and 1.8%, respectively.  In the eurozone countries, according to the IMF, GDP will increase in 2019 by 1.6% (in October, growth was estimated at 1.9%), in 2020 – by 1.7%.

Evaluation of Japanese economic growth increased by 0.2 percentage points.  – up to 1.1% and 0.5% respectively.  The forecast of GDP growth in the UK for 2019 has not changed – 1.5%, in 2020, the rise may reach 1.6%.

According to the World Bank (WB) report published in early January of this year, the growth of the Russian economy accelerated in 2018 to 1.6%, despite the tightening of economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, inflation in the country remained relatively low and stable.

At the same time, the authors of the report predicted a short-term slowdown in the growth of the Russian economy in 2019 to 1.5% (a deterioration in the forecast by 0.3% compared with the June data).  In 2020 and 2021, the WB expects an increase in the growth rate of the Russian GDP to 1.8%.
