-New generation of hydrolysis-stabilized PBT compounds unveiled
Compounds based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) need greater resistance to hydrolysis and aging in hot and humid environments when used in automobiles. For instance, the high electrical power densities of high-voltage systems in electric vehicles lead to greater temperature loads. Furthermore, additional thermal loads arise when charging the battery. In combustion engines, there is a trend towards turbocharged engines, which results in increased temperatures in the engine compartment.
-Around 3000 exhibitors expected at Heimtextil
Around 3000 international exhibitors will showcase their innovations at the 50th edition of Heimtextil, the international trade fair for home and contract textiles, to be held during January 7-10, 2020, in Frankfurt. The fair will see more sustainable products than ever. There will be more than 250 companies which will bring sustainably produced textiles.
The Green Directory, a separate exhibitor index focusing on the theme of sustainability that will be published by Heimtextil for the tenth time in 2020, lists these companies and their product innovations. -SPE Thermoforming Conference going to every other year
The Society of Plastics Engineers’ Thermoforming Division is changing its annual conference from every year to every other year, officials announced Nov. 4.

“For the past several years, the division’s board of directors has received feedback from attendees, sponsors and exhibitors that an annual conference is no longer what the industry needs,” said Eric Short, chairman of the SPE Thermoforming Division.

When offered a choice between two packaging options for the same quality of product, a huge majority across Europe – nine in ten respondents (91.5%) – said they would choose the packaging with 85% less plastic. When asked if they would pay a 12½% premium for this reduced-plastic packaging option, 62% of respondents said they were willing to do so.

The Prada fashion group has signed what is billed as the first business loan in the luxury goods sector linking the annual interest rate to practices that help the environment.

-US October ethylene contracts settle up 0.75 cent/lb
US October ethylene contracts settled for the majority of the market on Monday at an increase of 0.75 cent/lb ($17/tonne), mostly driven by higher spot prices.
