-France charts course for zero-waste society

There is a French revolution nouveau taking place—a revolt against single-use plastics (SUPs). In case you haven’t heard, the French government wants to eliminate all disposable plastic packaging by 2040. Petrochemical Oil Sanctions Fabric

You may have read about France’s decision to end the use of straws, glasses, cutlery, plates, drink stirrers, take-out cups and lids as well as food boxes made of EPS that will take effect in January. France wants to take that a step further, by going from a “disposable” society to a “reusable” one in the country’s drive for Zero Waste 2040 by banning all plastic packaging. percent recycled PET preforms and use recycled PET flakes in quantities up to 50 percent using standard machines and hot runners.

-Stora Enso pilots PEF feedstock plant

Stora Enso is investing €9 million ($10m) to build a pilot facility for enabling the production of bio-based plastics as the barrier in transparent packaging.

The pilot plant will convert plant-based sugars into the renewable building block required to make polyethylene furanoate (PEF), a bio-based plastic, mainly targeting the food and beverage industry. Petrochemical Oil Sanctions Fabric

It will be located at Stora Enso’s Langerbrugge Mill in Belgium.

The investment in bio-based chemistry further strengthens Stora Enso’s opportunities to replace fossil-based materials with renewable and recyclable materials. The pilot plant will focus on developing a cost-competitive process for manufacturing FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid) from sugars. FDCA is a key component of PEF.

-Britvic backs recycling consortium in war on waste

Britvic supplies a large range of branded drinks

Britvic is tackling waste with a series of measures aimed at boosting recycling.

The soft drinks supplier has joined forces with other global businesses to promote a ground-breaking recycling technology to support a circular economy for plastics.

The new technology is called BP Infinia and means opaque and difficult to recycle polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic waste can be made into new plastic again and again, with no loss in quality. Petrochemical Oil Sanctions Fabric

The new cross-industry consortium has committed to work together to make BP Infinia mainstream.

-BPF highlights valuable plastics contributions

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has developed an online resource that relates plastics to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and highlights areas where the industry has made a valuable contribution.

In 2015, all member states of the UN agreed an agenda to achieve better sustainability by 2030. Petrochemical Oil Sanctions Fabric

This comprised 17 SDGs, which are considered a call to action for both developed and developing nations, providing a framework to reduce inequality and spur economic growth while tackling climate change and other major environmental issues.

-OUTLOOK ’20: Europe PET to be tested by sustainability amid economic turmoil and oversupply

Choosing what is most likely to test the virgin polyethylene terephthalate (PET) industry in Europe may lead to a resounding “War on Plastic!”, but the challenges are many and overcoming them will not be easy.Petrochemical Oil Sanctions Fabric

DEMAND

If we start with sustainability and the global quest to achieve a circular economy, the writing is already on the wall. At least if PET’s poor image when bundled together with other plastics is anything to go by.

The misinformation surrounding the recyclability of PET, and in many countries – poor collection rates – are tough areas to combat.

-OUTLOOK ’20: Tough year for Europe ethylene, propylene ahead

“All the balls are in the air, we just don’t know where they will fall,” is a very apt description of the uncertainty and insecurities facing ethylene and propylene producers and consumers both home and abroad in 2020.Petrochemical Oil Sanctions Fabric

Increased ethylene and polymer capacities and softer than expected derivative markets amid an uncertain macroeconomic, geopolitical future, will weigh on global ethylene and propylene markets, and players are in no doubt that the pressures will be high – in Europe – in particular.
