The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) recently provided a grant to a non-governmental organisation, Initiative For The Advancement of Waste Management in Africa (W.A.S.T.E AFRICA), to promote waste as valuable currency for social, good and economic inclusion through the establishment of green recycling hubs across Abuja and Lagos.
“Plastic pollution is a problem that our company is committed to solving. Our vision for a ‘World Without Waste’ focuses on recycling and behavioural-change projects.
We believe projects such as the Cash 4 Trash initiative by W.A.S.T.E Africa are an effective means of working together to create shared value and deliver real change,” said the Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability Manager, Coca-Cola Nigeria, Nwamaka Onyemelukwe.
Chris Dow, IRG’s CEO, has more than 20 years of recycling industry experience.
International Recycling Group (IRG), a recycling startup company based in Erie, Pennsylvania, has appointed Chris Dow as its chief executive officer. Dow will be responsible for developing the postuse plastics sorting facility, which the company has dubbed a “SuperPRF” (plastics recovery facility).Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
IRG had announced plans to construct the facility Aug. 18, with a goal of starting operations in 2022. The facility will process more than 500 million pounds of postuse residential, industrial and commercial plastics each year, IRG reports in a news release.
IRG reports that Dow has worked in the recycling industry for more than 20 years, holding executive leadership roles at Closed Loop Recycling in Australia and the U.K. as well as being director at the Resource Association and deputy chairman of the Plastics Recyclers Europe PET group.

As of 2018, the recycling rate of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles in Norway was 97 percent, making it a world leader in recycling. In comparison, the recycling rate of these plastic bottles in the United States was just 29 percent.Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
New drive systems, increased connectivity and the trend towards ridesharing are all contributing to the fact that the car of the future will become a mobile, multifunctional living and working space. This also has a strong impact on the design of the interior. Here, the spotlight is placed on functionality, comfort and design along with efficiency and light weight. To meet these requirements, Covestro and its partners have developed a premium concept with material solutions for the interior and presented it for the first time at the K 2019 plastics fair.Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
“In particular, a high-quality and individual design has considerable influence on consumers’ buying decisions while providing car manufacturers opportunities for brand differentiation,” explained Jochen Hardt, Global Marketing Mobility in the Polycarbonates segment at Covestro, in a live webcast to journalists. “Here, the focus is on the design of surfaces using colours, optics and haptics, with light effects and functions. Products from Covestro open up almost unlimited possibilities.”
Plastics recycling is failing. Globally, over 350 million metric tons of plastic are produced annually, but according to the OECD, only 14-18% of that is recycled. And now that China has stopped importing the world’s plastic waste, we’re being forced to deal with it domestically.Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
The problem is, most plastics just aren’t recyclable. And even those that are degrade in quality each time they’re remade, meaning they’ll eventually end up in a landfill too. Many environmentalists say this means we need to stop plastics production at the source, and support bans or taxes on single-use plastics.
New project aims to develop a wide range of previously unknown possibilities for the use of CORDENKA® fibres and CORDENKA® fibre composites in product design
Through close cooperation between the School of Product Design at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand and Biomimetics, Biological Materials Group at the HSB City University of Applied Sciences Bremen, it has been possible, in collaboration with the company CORDENKA GmbH & Co. KG, to launch a UC Connect doctoral scholarship.Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
The “CORDENKA® fibre centred product design” scholarship is jointly awarded by the University of Canterbury and CORDENKA GmbH & Co. KG, Obernburg, Germany, to support scholarship holders on their way to a PhD at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.
History of the UC Connect Doctoral Fellowship: The fellowship was established by the University of Canterbury in 2014 to promote collaboration between university research groups and external companies at the doctoral level.
Every viscose staple fibre if woven or knitted into a fabric offers protection to the wearer from bacteria and viruses Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
Liva, the fashion ingredient brand from Birla Cellulose, part of Grasim Industries Ltd, flagship company of US $48.3-billion Aditya Birla Group, has launched Antimicrobial fibres, a breakthrough innovation that not only kills viruses and bacteria, but also inhibits their growth, keeping the fabric fresh and hygienic in the long run.
The latest innovation — Liva with added protection of Antimicrobial fibres by Birla Cellulose — is a leap forward in fashion by successfully injecting antimicrobial agent into Viscose Staple Fibre which when woven or knitted into a fabric offers protection to the wearer from bacteria and viruses, lasting over multiple washes while retaining comfort, fluidity and softness of the fabric.
We understand that there is considerable pressure on plastics and that many people around the world want a sustainable environment for future generations. Amid the challenges, there are also tremendous opportunities with PET, which is a 100 % circular, recyclable plastic with a lower carbon footprint than other packaging materials such as glass and aluminum. Collaboration with Industry Partners
We are working with several industry partners to achieve a circular economy for sustainable plastics, and intend to play a leading role by bringing customers of recycled products into the value chain and developing ways to include recyclability in all of our products. This is a major priority for us and is included in our climate change strategy.
Glass and carbon fiber-reinforced polypropylene ensures light, integrated, high-performing solutions according to supplier Borealis.
Polyolefin supplier Borealis has made available to the North American automotive market its Fibremod brand of carbon and glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) grades.
The Fibremod family of products enables automotive manufacturers to achieve weight-saving and process cost-saving targets.Petrochemicals CarbonFiber LLDPE PEF
In turn, replacing engineering plastics and metal parts with energy-efficient and lighter weight PP grades leads to improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
