-Iran will develop oil industry despite U.S. sanctions, Iranian oil minister says
“We will not surrender under any circumstances … We have to increase our capacity so that when necessary with full strength we can enter the market and revive our market share,” said Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh.
Hit by reimposed U.S. sanctions since Washington exited Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal in 2018, Iran’s oil exports are estimated at 100,000 to 200,000 barrels per day, down from more than 2.5 million bpd that Iran shipped in April 2018.
The Islamic Republic’s crude production has halved to around 2 million bpd.

Thanks to the advantages of plastic materials, their use has steadily increased last decades due to their enhanced properties. This fact is reflected in global polymer production, which amounted to 359 million tonnes in 2018, a 3.2% increase over the previous year. Bioplastics currently represent only 1% of all plastics produced annually, but demand is on the rise, given the many options for diversification due to the emergence of increasingly more sophisticated applications and products. However, one of the greatest challenges to face associated with the use of plastics is environmental pollution if they are not managed properly. Because most plastics have very low biodegradation rates, they accumulate in the environment at the end of their shelf life. Many plastics also end up in landfills, since no methods are currently available for proper waste treatment and recycling.

St. Paul, Minnesota-based Cortec Corp. says it is using up to 20 percent recycled content in the production of its vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) plastic film packaging. Cortec says it now operates “a vibrant recycling program that produces VCI film, which goes by the VpCI brand, with up to 20 percent recycled film content–a level at which Cortec says it can ensure the quality of newly made VpCI product.”
The company says it “regularly manufactures” VpCI film with 15 percent pre- and postconsumer recycled content. This level is “significantly outpacing recent American Recyclable Plastic Bag Alliance (ARPBA) milestone goals of reaching 10 percent recycled content shopping bags by 2021 and 15 percent recycled content bags by 2023,” states the firm.
-NRT launches color-based optical sorter with Al
The NRT ColorPlus with Max-AI combines high-resolution color and AI technologies.
Nashville, Tennessee-based National Recovery Technologies (NRT), a subsidiary of Bulk Handling Systems (BHS), Eugene, Oregon, has released the ColorPlus with Max-AI. The ColorPlus with Max-AI integrates artificial intelligence (AI) with NRT’s ColorPlus sorter. According to a news release from NRT, the additional layer of AI creates new sorting capabilities by combining the ColorPlus sorter’s high-volume and high-confidence capabilities with Max-AI’s person-like identification decisions.
The ColorPlus sorter employs a high-resolution RGB color line-scan sensor to identify and sort recyclables by color. Max-AI technology employs a camera and deep-learning-based AI to identify recyclables similar to the way a person does.

While most of these installations use the technology in collaboration with robotic sorters, the Max-AI VIS (Visual Identification System) is also installed as stand-alone equipment and has already been integrated into the NRT SpydIR with Max-AI.
-Canada’s Nova Chemicals and Enerkem to recycle municipal waste
Recycling municipal waste into ethylene
Two Canadian companies will collaborate on technology to close the loop on recycling and drive a plastics circular economy. Nova Chemicals Corporation, a producer of chemicals and plastic resins, and Enerkem, a waste to renewable fuels and chemicals producer, have entered into a joint development agreement to explore turning non-recyclable and non-compostable municipal waste into ethylene, a basic building block of plastics. Working together, the companies will research advanced recycling technology to transform hard-to-recycle municipal waste, including items such as plastics, household waste, and construction materials, into ethylene at full commercial scale. Ethylene, produced from waste, would advance a plastics circular economy and help meet consumer brand goals for recycled content in packaging.
-China’s vehicle sales, production surge in June
China’s vehicle sales and production rose in June to the highest for the month since 2018, data from the China association of automobile manufacturers (CAAM) show.
Sales were higher by 11.6pc from a year earlier at 2.3mn in June, while production rose by 22.5pc to around 2.33mn over the same period.
The country’s January-June sales fell by 16.9pc from the year-earlier period, paring year-to-date declines of 22.6pc in May, 31.1pc in April and 43pc in March, on higher-than-expected domestic demand in response to local government stimulus measures to boost auto sales. China’s January-June vehicle production also decreased by 16.8pc from a year earlier to 10.11mn.
-Europe PE margins rise on higher selling prices

-Germany passes through the deepest part of economic collapse – ministry
Germany has passed through the deepest part of the economic trough brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s economic ministry said on Monday, with activity increasing but capacity still underutilised.

The data points to industrial production having bottomed out and starting to rebound, Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) said, after a downturn that significantly pre-dated the pandemic and chilled conditions in wider eurozone manufacturing since the second half of 2019.
Stronger order books point to production increasing over the next few months, but risks still remain in terms of infection rates elsewhere, in turn hitting demand growth from non-EU countries.
