-BMW would up Dutch production in hard Brexit scenario – CEO

German carmaker BMW (BMWG.DE) sees a 50:50 chance of Britain leaving the European Union without a trade agreement, which would force it to shift more production of Mini vehicles to the Netherlands, Chief Executive Harald Krueger said on Tuesday.

-Process ‘Upcycles’ Waste Plastics To Virgin-Quality PET

Depolymerization technology developed by Loop Industries aims to repurpose scrap PET of all types.

Like so many technology start-ups, it began with a vision and in a garage. Three years later, Loop Industries’ vision of turning post-consumer PET into virgin-quality material as a result of technology developed in that garage has become reality. The firm’s proprietary “upcycling” process breaks waste PET down to its chemical building blocks, separating out any impurities such as dyes, additives, and foodstuffs. These building blocks are then combined to create virgin-quality PET that can be used in food-grade plastic packaging.

Daniel Solomita, founder and CEO of Loop, was working on a landfill reclamation project in South Carolina, recovering tens of thousands of tons of waste plastic that had been abandoned years before. While taking steps to market the recovered material for recycling, he met a chemist in Quebec who was in the early stages of developing a chemical technology to upcycle waste plastic into virgin-quality PET.

-Almost quarter of plastic bottles washed up on Hong Kong beaches come from Coca-Cola Company

Study finds 23.4 per cent of containers picked up in clean-up operations this summer belonged to Coca-Cola brands, followed closely by Vita at 21 per cent

The Green Earth organised 14 beach cleaning campaigns across the city this summer and found 328 of the 1,404 bottles it collected belonged to Coca-Cola brands.

At 23.4 per cent, the share was the highest of all producers.

-Flat to Lower Pricing for Volume Resins— Except Nylons

Improved supply/demand balance in key feedstocks and resins is steering prices flat to lower, but not for nylons.

Heading into the fourth quarter, a combination of lower prices for some key feedstocks and improvements in both feedstock and resin availability heralded a flat-to-lower pricing trend for PE, PP, PS, PVC, PET, ABS and PC. In contrast, tight feedstock and resin availability has been pushing prices upward for nylons 6 and 66.

Those were the views last month of purchasing consultants from Resin Technology, Inc. (RTi), Fort Worth, Texas; CEO Michael Greenberg of the Plastics Exchange in Chicago; and Houston-based PetroChemWire (PCW).
