The Turkish company Koksan Pet and Packaging, a local producer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), has postponed plans to launch line 2 for the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by the end of 2019 in the city of Gaziantep (Gaziantep, Turkey), ICIS reports with reference on the words of the source in the company.

According to the source, the uncertain economic situation caused the delay in the implementation of the second line project with a capacity of 260 thousand tons of PET per year.

PureCycle Technologies is stepping up an effort to open an Ohio plant that would use a polypropylene plastic recycling process based on patented technology developed by Procter & Gamble Co.

The plant would restore used polypropylene plastic to virgin-like quality with a recycling method that is one of a kind, according to the Cincinnati-based maker of Tide detergent (NYSE: PG) and Chicago-based PureCycle.

The P&G technology enabled PureCycle to strike partnerships with Swiss-based food and beverage company Nestlé and South Carolina-based specialty chemicals firm Milliken & Co.

Egypt’s planned $10bn Tahrir Petrochemicals Complex (TPC) in the Suez Economic Zone will outshine competitors in the Middle East as its exports to Europe will be more competitive when it starts up in 2023, according to the chief projects officer (CPO) at producer Carbon Holdings.

First envisaged by Carbon Holdings in 2012, TPC’s construction start-up date has been delayed several times.

The guidance in 2018 indicated construction would start in the first quarter of 2019, but the company’s chief projects officer (CPO) Peter Skelly confirmed actual construction would start in the fourth quarter.

Supply of Group I base oils from Iran is likely to tighten in the weeks ahead as market participants there mark the annual Nowruz, or Iranian new year, holidays which start this week.

Although Nowruz officially starts on 20 March, Iranian market participants said they would likely start their holidays a few days before that, probably as early as 16 March, before returning to work in late-March.

Ahead of the holidays, spot prices of Group I SN500 base oils in Iran fell to their lowest in about two-and-a-half years in the week ended 14 March, dragged by lower priced deals done by Iranian refiners while demand in the region remained generally weak.

Saudi Arabia’s crude oil exports continued to fall at the start of this year after OPEC’s largest producer started to aggressively cut oil supply in December last year to prevent another glut, while the Kingdom signals that further cuts are coming.

According to data by the Joint Organisations Data Initiative (JODI) database, which collects self-reported figures from 114 countries, Saudi crude oil exports dropped to 7.254 million bpd in January, down from 7.687 million bpd in December 2018.

During the last month of 2018, OPEC’s de facto leader and the cartel’s key ally Russia realized their preemptive production ramp-up to meet a steep Iranian export shortfall would create another glut if they don’t implement another round of cuts, which they did, starting in January.

It is the right time to enhance the opportunities for chemical recycling in Europe in order for the plastics industry to be fully circular, says the first president of a new organisation called Chemical Recycling Europe.

The non-profit association was established at the start of the year with the vision of establishing an industry platform for developing and promoting chemical recycling technologies for polymer waste across

Thinking about sustainable packaging? With the attention given to this issue globally, odds are your top management and marketing folks are asking you to check into packaging that can be composted or possibly biodegraded in marine environments. Here are the eight things you need to know and share with them before starting on a rather complex and potentially costly journey that does not always lead to the intended results.

  1. Biodegradation is a process, not an end result.Biodegrade showing tractor at biodegradable compost heap

Biodegradation occurs when materials are broken down into simpler materials by bacteria, fungi, or other biological means. The end result you are looking for is probably home or industrial compostability, which is where biodegradation can lead. Ditto for marine biodegradation.
