Levissima, part of Sanpellegrino Group (Nestlé Waters), needed to address the growing demand for bottled water in Italy with a new complete line, producing its re-designed 1.5 litre bottle of pure, Alpine water.

With the help of its long-standing partner, Sidel, Levissima was able to improve the quality of its label application while simultaneously increasing the output capacity.

This is an achievement that took advantage of the new EvoDECO Roll-Fed, the latest addition to Sidel’s labelling portfolio.

CertainT blended towels will arrive at stores this month

Loftex CertainTNew York – Loftex has announced the first retail introduction of its bath towels including recycled PET (rPET) source-verified by the CertainT platform.

Arriving at retail this month, the towels were originally introduced to consumers via e-commerce. The CertainT tagging and tracing platform is provided by Applied DNA Sciences, which specializes in PCR-based DNA manufacturing for product authenticity and traceability.

Loftex created the eco-friendly towel, which is partially comprised of rPET materials, as part of its commitment to sustainability both in manufacturing and finished products.

The company markets and sells bath and beach towels with CertainT source verification for rPET through an exclusive licensing agreement with Applied DNA. Additional products utilizing CertainT source-verification for rPET will continue to be introduced in towels and other home products this year, Applied DNA said.

The EU’s proposal to introduce a 90% collection target for PET beverage bottles by 2029 is unlikely to be met without significant investment in infrastructure and waste management collection, according to Wood Mackenzie Chemicals.

The commercial intelligence analysts said up to 60 new reprocessing plants will likely be required in order to recycle this additional volume in collected waste.

The EU directive also calls for 25% of recycled plastic from 2025, increasing to 30% from 2030, in all PET beverage bottles, which Wood Mackenzie Chemicals says will  lead to a six-fold increase in demand for recycled PET in Europe by 2030.

Since 2004, China has been the world’s largest generator of waste, including plastics — but at least it’s trying to address the problem

Since 2004, China has been the world’s largest generator of waste, including plastics. And, since 2010 at least, China has been the largest source of waste plastic flowing into the world’s oceans.

To its credit, the Chinese government has tried to shrink the problem. In recent years, it’s forced retailers to charge for single-use plastic bags that aren’t biodegradable (with questionable success); Jilin province has banned such bags and food-service items outright. The tropical island of Hainan plans to impose an even wider ban starting in 2020.

Leading Irish wholesale supplier to the foodservice, retail and SME sectors, Musgrave MarketPlace, has announced this morning that sales of its eco-friendly packaging and disposables range saw a dramatic increase in sales of 131% in 2018.

The support for eco-friendly products has continued into 2019, as sales for the first 9 weeks of 2019 are up 198% compared to the same time last year. The eco-friendly packaging and disposables products are available at all Musgrave MarketPlace branches nationwide.

Echa has started the public consultation on its restriction proposal for intentionally added microplastics in products.

The consultation is open until 20 September, but the agency has encouraged early submissions to make it easier for its committees to consider responses.

Echa published the proposal on 30 January, after a request by the European Commission a year earlier for a REACH Annex XV restriction dossier for microplastics. The request forms part of the EU plastics strategy.

Rising Prices of Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT) Spurred by Increasing Raw Material Costs

A semi-crystalline resin, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is well-established in the automotive and E&E industries.

The tremendous dimensional stability which stems from minimal water uptake, the high heat deflection temperature and the high stiffness of the polyester offer an amalgamation of engineering properties.

OPEC’s oil production in March 2019 fell to its lowest level since February 2015, as Saudi Arabia cut more than it had pledged under the output cut deal and Venezuela continued to struggle amid U.S. sanctions and a major blackout, the monthly Reuters survey showed on Monday.

The combined production of all 14 OPEC members stood at 30.4 million bpd last month, down by 280,000 bpd compared to February and the lowest level of OPEC production since February four years ago, according to the survey.

Theresa May will ask the EU for an extension to the Brexit deadline to “break the logjam” in Parliament.

The PM says she wants to meet Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to agree a plan on the future relationship with the EU.

But she insisted her withdrawal agreement – which was voted down last week – would remain part of the deal.

Mr Corbyn said he was “very happy” to meet Mrs May, and would ensure plans for a customs union and protection of workers’ rights were on the table.
