-Bioplastics market 2019 to expand at a cagr of 26.03% by 2023: complete market analysis by growth opportunities, demand, production

Bioplastics are segmented into biodegradable plastics (bio-based and fossil-based) and non-biodegradable plastics (bio-based).

Currently, non-biodegradable plastics (bio-based) account for around 72% of bioplastic market.

Bio-based, non-biodegradable plastics, including the drop-in solutions, such as, bio-based PE (polyethylene), bio-based PET (polyethylene terephthalate), and bio-based PA (polyamides), currently make up for around 56% of the global bioplastics production capacities.

The production of bio-based PE is predicted to continue to grow, as new capacities are planned in Europe, during the forecast period.

Bio-based PE is used in packaging applications, such as, carry bags, plastic films, and bottles.

-France to set penalties on goods packaged with non-recycled plastic in 2019

Plastic production has soared more than 40 per cent globally over the past 10 years, mainly for packaging Credit: Romeo GACAD / AFP

rance plans to introduce a penalty system next year that would increase the cost of consumer goods with packaging made of non-recycled plastic, part of a pledge to use only recycled plastic nationwide by 2025, an environment ministry official said on Sunday.

Brune Poirson, secretary of state for ecological transition, said the move was one of several to be implemented in coming years, including a deposit-refund scheme for plastic bottles.

-K 2019 – New products from plastic waste: BASF customers showcase prototypes made from chemically recycled material

More and more companies from the plastics industry are working on improving the recyclability of plastics and thus helping to create a circular economy. One way that BASF is contributing is the ChemCycling project: At the end of 2018, the company first used pilot volumes of a pyrolysis oil derived from plastic waste as a feedstock in its own production.

At a press conference in advance of K 2019, the world’s largest trade show for the plastics and rubber industry, four partners have showcased the first prototypes that were created during the pilot phase of the project.

-Watch: Italy’s answer to the problem with plastic

Damning reports have suggested the amount of plastic in the world’s oceans will outweigh fish by 2050.

Not only is plastic leaking into seas at a startling rate – a truckload per minute, according to World Economic Forum – but once it’s in there, fish mistake it for food.

The situation has left companies across Europe scrambling to produce alternatives to our growing problem with plastics.

-Car seats: Are they important?

Safety, better driving, fuel efficiency and more come with paying attention to car seats

Dubai: Do you pay any attention to the car seats when deciding to buy a car?

Experts will tell you that you should. In fact, that should be among your top considerations when purchasing a vehicle.

Seats are as important as the engine, particularly if you are driving a fast car. A good seat helps improve safety, makes us better drivers and can even increase a car’s fuel efficiency, say experts.

Whether buyers take car seats seriously or not, manufacturers are certainly doing so. It’s not just cushion, fabric and leather that goes into making a car seat. Seat making has become a specialised field now, with automakers contracting dedicated firms, such as Adient, Faurecia and Lear, to get the job done. Polymers Petrochemicals Seat Fabric

-New line concept for single-origin packaging solutions to meet demands of a circular economy

Brückner Maschinenbau is working on a means to make films with the highest possible recycling capabilities producible on film stretching lines. The focus is on mono-material film with superior mechanical and optical properties, which will be able to substitute previous multi-layer films made from different materials. These are ideal for the use in new, single-origin packaging and guarantee good sortibility in waste separation and optimal recycling.

For the K 2019 Brückner will introduce two completely new line concepts for the production of BOPE films (biaxially oriented polyethylene). Film producers can chose between a working width of 6.6 m and an output of 3 t/h, or a working width of 8.7 m and an output of 5 t/h. These are 5 layer concepts for an extended range of films.

-Xinhua Headlines: China’s war on trash creates market for European green enterprises

Trash separation is the talk of the town in China these days as the government unveils a list of 46 “pilot cities” to build up a garbage sorting and processing system by 2020.

Mandatory schemes on household garbage sorting have already emerged in metropolises like Shanghai in order to improve its recycling rates.

Moreover, an investment of 21.3 billion yuan (about 3.1 billion U.S. dollars) will be allocated to speed up building the recycling system, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.   P

-U.S. Threatens China With Sanctions On Iranian Oil Imports

The U.S. State Department has threatened China with sanctions because of its continued imports of Iranian oil—a move that was only to be expected but hardly the wisest one amid still high trade tensions between the two countries.

“We’re going to zero [exports of Iranian crude] and … countries that don’t abide by US sanctions will face repercussions for not abiding by US sanctions,” S&P Global Platts quoted a State Department spokeswoman as saying. “That goes for China or any other country in the world. We expect all countries to abide by US sanctions.”

-Sustainable plastics: How far and how fast can we go?

Much of what consumers have seen and heard about plastics in the past year or two can be described, at best, as thought provoking and, at worst, as downright negative.

It’s therefore unsurprising that packaging has been the focus of attention, and this industry has been making good progress for some years toward more sustainable options.
