-“Kim Jong-un in a coma, the sister in charge of North Korea”

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is reported to be in a coma after passing some of his powers to his sister. This was stated in the South Korean press citing a collaborator of former president Kim Dae-jung.

According to Chang Song-min, this is the name of the Seoul officer, “I am convinced that he is in a coma, but he is not yet dead: the succession has not yet been completed, so Kim yo-jong (the younger sister, ed) is brought to the fore because there cannot be a prolonged power vacuum.”

-Simple process transforms PET plastic into a nanomaterial for supercapacitors

UC Riverside (UCR) engineers have developed a way to recycle PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic waste, such as soda or water bottles, into a nanomaterial useful for energy storage. An open-access paper on the work is published in the journal Energy Storage. Petrochemicals Nylon66 Nylon6

The researchers first dissolved pieces of PET plastic bottles in a solvent. Then, using an electrospinning process, they fabricated microscopic fibers from the polymer and carbonized the plastic threads in a furnace. After mixing with a binder and a conductive agent, the material was then dried and assembled into an electric double-layer supercapacitor within a coin-cell type format.

-THE SWEDISH RECYCLING REVOLUTION

Sweden is aiming for a zero waste society. This takes the country’s recycling revolution one step further – from dumping rubbish in landfills, to recycling to reusing.

Everyday sustainability

It is early morning, and 31-year-old Daniel Silberstein collects his bike from the storeroom in his block of flats, but not before he has separated out his empty cartons and packaging into the containers in the shared basement. It is just some of the two tonnes of rubbish he and his fellow Swedes recycle per person each year. Petrochemicals Nylon66 Nylon6

‘The thing about recycling is that it’s quite mechanical’, he says. ‘It’s basically just this thing you automatically do where you sort your rubbish – just another part of all the consumption we do in our daily lives’, Silberstein says. He lives in a central Stockholm flat with his partner and daughter Charlie.

EREMA PLASTIC RECYCLING BLOG – THE OCEAN CLEANUP PROJECT USES EREMA TECHNOLOGY TO CREATE POST-CONSUMER RECYCLED PLASTICS PRODUCTS FROM GREAT GARBAGE PATCH PLASTIC WASTE

The Ocean Cleanup project is a non-profit organization with the goal of eliminating 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years and 90% of ocean borne plastic by 2040. These estimates are based upon engineering models of the major ocean gyres combined with reasonable efforts at source reduction.  Petrochemicals Nylon66 Nylon6

By The Ocean Cleanup’s estimates, there are 5,000,000,000,000 pieces of plastic in the ocean. These are distributed in 5 major garbage patches, the most famous of which is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch which is located between California and Hawaii.

-Evaluating Physical Properties of Polymer Materials

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is commonly employed in the evaluation of polymer materials’ physical properties; for example, their melting point, glass transition point, and thermal decomposition temperature.

When working with standard DSC measurements, however, the peaks and shifts could overlap in cases where multiple thermal phenomena occur in the same temperature range. This can lead to an analysis of the individual phenomena being challenging in some instances. Petrochemicals Nylon66 Nylon6

One alternative approach is the use of temperature-modulated DSC (TM-DSC) – a technique that enables the acquisition of information which cannot be obtained with standard DSC by temperature control, thanks to a modulation that is overlaid on a constant temperature increase.

-Nylstar introduces Meryl recycled yarns using Invista

Nylstar, an European textile company, has introduced new Meryl recycled yarns as part of its global strategy to provide circular economy solutions.

Meryl yarn can now be produced with global recycled standard (GRS) certification using Invista recycled nylon 6.6 polymer. With 50 per cent or more recycled content, yarn will retain the world-renowned quality.Petrochemicals Nylon66 Nylon6

Invista sources post-industrial nylon 6.6 material from its plant in Kingston, Canada, where fibres for airbags and carpets are produced.

Through its proprietary process, Invista converts post-industrial fibre waste to pellet form and supplies it to Nylstar for spinning, enabling some of the world’s top fashion houses to deliver sustainable garments to the market.

“We, through our research centre for advanced recycled materials, are the first to commercialise these recycled materials for use in fine denier yarns for the athleisure market,” Alfonso Cirera, CEO and president of Nylstar, said in a press release.
